Presentation of Two Translations of the Book of Psalms

Last Friday, the presentation of two editions of the Book of Psalms took place at CBI in the center of Zagreb as part of the Croatian Psalter project.

These are two lesser-known, yet valuable, Croatian translations of the Psalms. The first translation is from 1859, created by Ivan Matija Škarić, and the second is from 1975, translated by Fra Silvije Grubišić. These translations reflect not only different approaches to the biblical text but also the richness of the Croatian language and style across different periods.

At the event, Dr. Danijel Berković, Dr. Boris Beck, and Nino Brozinčević spoke about the translators, their lives, their approaches to translation, and the linguistic features of their works.

A special highlight was hearing selected psalms read aloud from these translations, allowing listeners to experience their unique qualities and beauty.
